September CCSS Calendar Companions!!!! You Don't Want to Miss!

So, do you need some projects, potential centers, or some September activities for small or large group instruction-- September CCSS Calendar Companions will help you get the job done!

These calendar companions are aligned to the levels of thinking purported by Norman Webb’s Depth of Knowledge and Bloom’s Taxonomy and are sure to keep your students’ thinking. There is an activity slated for each day of the month. These can be used in centers, on a bulletin board, or in small/whole group instruction. Each calendar date represents something from history. It is also a great tool to use in social studies with some of the historical events! Any of these historical events can be expounded into a day's lesson or two to three days! You will not want to miss this!

Busy! Busy! Busy!

Wow! Time flies... and I have let time get away from me with my blog! Shoot! No post since August 17th... shame on me! School is going great! I love those kids! Tonight I have finished a set of mini-posters for a study of the different biomes. Use these vivid photos to pair with informational text to enhance discussion on plants, animals, seasons, how humans interact in each biome, and what impact people have had in different biomes. Your students are sure to love these mini-posters which will usually fit right above whiteboards and lend themselves to great discussions, investigations, and research! Take a look... Number the Stars unit in full progress and will be finished soon... also, a powerpoint to address the best discipline strategies for ADHD students! One you don't want to miss!

Sunday Night Again... The Weekends Are Over Too Fast!

Today has gone by fast! I have worked on a Number the Stars Novel Unit as well as took a break from that and made this set of chevron print divisibility posters. This classroom poster set helps students to figure out if a number is divisible by two through ten. It is a great tool for factoring large numbers and finding the greatest common factor. It also allows students to gain confidence in their ability to successfully divide larger numbers. These posters are in a chevron theme and will surely appeal to your students while also aiding them in understanding and applying the rules of divisibility. Check it out!

Happy Saturday!

Today, I decided that I would create a "profile" for students to use when heading back to school. Your students are sure to love "My Profile." Use this template as an introductory activity in beginning school this year as a mechanism for everyone to get to know each other and "break the ice" to help establish a community of learners! This "profile" asks for the student's birthday, their "skills," their family members, favorite music, great movies they enjoy, where they attend school, and their future goals. You don't want to miss this!

And... Another Set of "I Can" Statements

Also, I have uploaded tonight a set of fifth grade "I Can" statements for math instruction! This is a user-friendly collection of sixth grade "I Can" statements for math instruction. There are two statements on each page. The size of these "I Can" statements will fit wonderful at the top of a whiteboard and will not take up that much needed space for classroom instruction. Also, there are many learners in your classroom that can not process so much visual stimuli; therefore, these statements are not loaded with graphics but rather are user friendly and are a great size to use!

Thinkers Welcome!

So, I have been busy tonight! I love doing this, and would love feedback from anyone who has ideas or needs for his/her classroom. Later this evening, I posted the following: Welcome students to a classroom of thought provoking questions and high expectations! This packet is a set of twenty-four light bulbs that can be used with the caption, "Thinkers Welcome!" On each light bulb, a thought provoking question or activity can be written for students to complete as bell ringers or in an independent station/center. Additionally, each student's name may be listed on a light bulb and this be used as a classroom management tool in calling on students by picking "light bulbs" because you know each student will be "thinking brightly!"

Check it out! Sleep Well! Sweet dreams!

Mini-Posters to Enhance Multiplication Fluency

So, I chosen today's post to help with multiplication fluency. We all know absolutely how important learning multiplication facts are. Today, I have uploaded mini-posters which give the multiples of numbers one through ten. These colorful mini-posters allow students to see quickly at a glance the multiples for numbers one through ten. This is a great reference tool for solving problems and improving multiplication fact fluency. Please check it out! I believe that it will prove to be a valuable resource to your math class!

Standards-Based IEP Document Writing...

Hello All!

I hope everyone's weekend went well! As for me and my family, we had to get one last trip to the beach completed, and we had a great time! Thanks sister Lindy for the invitation. I have worked on a powerpoint recently for writing Standards-Based IEP documents and how to transition from writing a "traditional" IEP versus a "standards-based" IEP and how to start. The following link is the power point -- slide by slide-- there are 49 slides... as well as the powerpoint printed in handout form-- actually three handouts per page! Go and check it out-- I hope it can serve as a source of help to you! Happy Monday!

First Day of 2014-2015 Done!

Today was a great day! It is always great to see the students arrive in their new shoes and new school clothes. Summer is in the books for another year and football season is on it's way! Tonight I have worked on some training materials for writing Standards-Based IEP Documents in the era of Common Core State Standards. I am making an attempt to post these materials tomorrow for your use! BTW, I was also saddened today, on the first day back, that I still had one student at school at 4:47 and no parent seemed to care... broke my heart! Well, we care at school so back we go on Thursday! Drew starts school on Friday as a fifth grader... Blake graduates this December in Construction Engineering and Brady graduates in May in Business Administration... whew! Man on man... they are grown! Stay tuned for training materials for your professional learning communities and focused faculty meetings... will upload tomorrow night!

Tomorrow is Why We Do What We Do!

Well, I'm a bit distracted tonight by the awesome country music festival tonight! Goodness, it's good! Well, tomorrow is the day... The day the children come back to school! I know they are excited... I know I'm excited! Another year of learning, of  growing, of excelling, and striving to do the absolute best! Tomorrow we start, one again, that fast ride on the merry-go-round and about the time we are ready to say, "Someone please stop it and let me get off... We get a breather... And we say, "Let me ride some more..." Teachers, what you do matters! Kids need your devotion, your time, and your energy!" They remember the difference that you make in them years from now... The good and the bad! What teaching legacy are you creating? My mom, Dr. Karen Hill, was my mentor! She was born in 1947 and left this earthly world in 2008 (1947-2008) I can not express in words what she accomplished in the world of education during the "dash." How's your dash? You are a difference maker! Currently, I working on some training materials on taking the CCSS and writing Standards-Based IEP Documents... Share your insight!
