Just Another Few Days... Here's a Great Activity for Converting Temperatures at the North Pole at the "Big Man's" Home!

I hope that your Saturday afternoon has been productive or that at least you are staying warm! Take a peek at this resource! Have you noticed that Zillow has a listing of Santa Claus's home for sale? Imagine that! Well, I thought we should capitalize on this listing, and I even tried this earlier this week in a classroom and the "big kids" were hanging on the edge of their seat to see which picture and what room we would look at next and convert the temperature! Unbelievable! One student... are you ready for this.... asked me, "What is that URL address? I want to go back to that site later and look at it some more. Is that real?" I count that day as a SUCCESS! So, here is the product description and a link to head on over and grab this resource!

Happy Saturday!

Free Training Offered through Mississippi Department of Transportation

Good Evening Friends!

I am copying and pasting an opportunity for free training provided through the Mississippi Department of Transportation which capitalizes on science and math instruction. It offers lots of materials and would definitely be worth checking into!

MDOT RIDES Training for K-8 Teachers
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites Kindergarten through grade 8 teachers to attend Roadways In Developing Elementary Students (RIDES) mathematics and science training during summer 2016.  The two-day hands-on training is designed to improve mathematics and science instruction by utilizing activities with a transportation theme.  Teachers will receive lesson plans, over $1,200 in resources to complete the activities, and lunch on both days.   There is no cost to the district other than the travel to the training, and teachers may purchase 1.5 CEU credits for $15.  Three trainings will be offered throughout the state during the month of June 2016.
RIDES is aligned with the Mississippi Science Framework and the Mississippi College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics.  The program has served over 2,000 teachers in the state since 2004. To apply, click here.  Due to the demand for the training, teachers who have already participated in this training will not be accepted.  Teachers will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

Thanks,

Terri

Product DescriptionThis resource consists of sixty-eight slides to serve as training and support materials for rejuvenating your passion for teaching. Many of the strategies discussed originate from the book, Unshakable, by Angela Watson. Check Out This Short Story: Christmas in the Barn! The Kids Will Love It!

Good Evening All,

Well, things have slowed down just a little bit and I have some time here at home so I thought I needed to crank up the creative juices and get them flowing. While "junkin" the other day, I ran across this old Scholastic book published in 1968... magic year for me since that's when I entered this world... nevertheless, I have enjoyed reading all of the short Christmas stories, and I chose this one to design seven teaching and learning activities. I hope you all enjoy!

Product Description: This resource is perfect for the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Enclosed you will find five pages of a short narrative story that has a certain rhyme and rhythm to it that students will enjoy! It is a story told from a young girl’s point of view about how she wishes for a horse for Christmas. She is reminded in the story that she will still have a great Christmas even if she doesn’t get a horse; however, she is convinced that one secretly hides in the barn for her. Her mom reminds her about many other children whose parents might very well be away for Christmas. This is a very old Christmas story and was published through Scholastic in 1968. Again, the students will love many teaching and learning activities associated with the story! This story lends itself to several teaching and learning endeavors such as: (1) the use of personification; (2) great vocabulary instruction; (3) sequencing; (4) point of view; (5) Descriptive Writing; (6) research and investigation of several different states discussed in the story; (7) the use of similes to make comparisons; and (8) making predictions about what will happen next in the story based on the context clues provided!
